Hardin Valley’s Hottest Workout

Hardin Valley’s Hottest Workout

What’s the hottest new business in Hardin Valley? At temperatures up to 130 degrees F, HOTWORX handily claims that title.

How would you like to burn the same amount of calories from a traditional workout in just 15 minutes? The “3D Training” model makes it possible with heat, infrared energy and exercise. The following information about the “3D Training” can also be found on HOTWORX website, www.hotworx.net

What is it? –

HOTWORX is a truly unique workout using a patented sauna to offer “3D Training” by combining heat, infrared, and exercise.

1 HEAT

RAISES YOUR CORE BODY TEMPERATURE AND SPEEDS UP METABOLISM

When your core body temperature rises, there is an anabolic effect that speeds up your metabolism. Another heated workout advantage is that less time is required for warm ups in a heated studio.

2 INFRARED ENERGY

ACTIVATES AND STRENGTHENS THE REGENERATIVE PROCESS IN THE HUMAN BODY

Infrared energy has the effect of strengthening and activating the regenerative processes in the human body. This is why workouts in an infrared energy environment can help to accelerate workout recovery.

3 EXERCISE

INCREASES YOUR HEART RATE AND MAXIMIZES CALORIE BURN

Two forms of exercise work very well inside of the HOTWORX infrared sauna- Isometrics and HIIT. With isometrics, a variety of methods can be used, such as yoga and pilates. With HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), a short 15-minute routine with a cycle or full body cardio will provide just the right amount of workout results when combined with heat and infrared energy.

We often associate saunas and hot workouts with humid air but HOTWORX employs a dry heat. The infrared energy directly increases the temperature of everything inside the sauna space. Ideal workout temperatures will range between 125 and 130 degrees F, but members do have the ability to decrease the temperature during their session (lower than 125 degrees). Saunas are 63 square feet and to the eye appear to be 9ft x 7ft.

What they offer –

The HOTWORX Hardin Valley location opened on October 14, 2020, though the first HOTWORX opened in Oxford, Mississippi at Ole Miss.  HOTWORX is headquartered out of Louisiana and now has more than 150 locations nationwide.  There are two locations in Knox County: the oh so convenient gym on Hardin Valley Rd next to Maple Street and the other location is in the Cedar Bluff area near Culvers (sorry to talk about food in a fitness article but I know that you knew those spots all too well!)

Use of the facility is member-based. Memberships can be purchased based upon unlimited use of the Hardin Valley facility or a nationwide membership that will allow you to work out at any of locations across the U.S.  HOTWORX Hardin Valley has a special for January where the cost of enrollment is only $1 and the monthly due for January will only be $20.21 (does not include mat and towel purchase, but this January deal is great!), then the membership is $59 per month for use of only the Hardin Valley location or $69 per month for all HOTWORX locations nationwide. Members can always bring a guest with them, and there are no limits to guests.

Kelsey Bruder, HOTWORX Hardin Valley’s manager, said HOTWORX is a 24-hour infrared fitness studio where you’re able to burn calories in less time using their 15-minute or 30-minute workouts.  There are many workout options broken into two categories – 30-minute isometric workouts and 15-minute high intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts.  Isometric workouts include hot iso, hot yoga, hot pilates, hot warrior, hot core, hot buns, hot bands, and hot barre none.  HIIT workouts include hot cycle and hot blast (full-body cardio).

Scheduling workouts is easy through the HOTWORX Burn Off app, users can track calories, unlock rewards (with their 90-day burn off challenge), compete with other HOTWORX members, and Sweat Everywhere Members have access to virtual personal training.  The workout videos start at specific times with HIIT every 15 minutes and Iso every 45 minutes.

It’s important for members to consume lots of water as being hydrated the day before coming to work out and consuming water during workouts is important.  In addition, electrolytes are beneficial to consume after workouts.

Beginners typically target 3-4 workouts per week and can increase the intensity of the workouts to a moderate level over time.  Even just two workouts per week is a big step when you are coming off the couch, though!  Some locals do up to 7 workouts per week, with up to 3 workouts in a singular trip!

Staffed hours are Monday through Thursday from 11:00am to 8:00pm, Friday from 9:00am to 6:00pm, and Saturday 11:00am to 4:00pm (not staffed on Sundays).  Members use the app or pin code for access to the facility.  Amenities include shower facilities with toiletries, body wash, deodorant, and dry shampoo.  If all they offer isn’t enough to entice you to try it out, read what one of their members, Amy Sheldon, had to say about HOTWORX Hardin Valley:

“Where do I begin on all the reasons why I love HOTWORX?  A workout at HOTWORX is a WIN WIN!  Where else can you go, get all the benefits of a workout plus soothe your muscles, detoxify your body and work on your skin all at the same time?! HOTWORX Hardin Valley is the absolute best! Kim and Kelsey are so friendly and personable.  It is highly addictive! TRY IT!!!!”

Covid-19 Precautions –

There are precautions HOTWORX Hardin Valley takes to protect the community as it relates to  COVID-19.  The heat alone is good for killing the virus, but in addition, they’ve taken the following actions: upping cleaning standards, facemasks in facility (not required in saunas), cleaning after workouts, requesting inside of and outside of staff hours for members to clean up and wipe down surfaces, having an ionic air purifier with double the square footage capacity of the gym, and providing several hand sanitizer stations throughout the facility.  Under normal conditions, three members can work out at the same time. COVID protocols have reduced the number to two participants per sauna, and members can request individual workouts at no additional expense.
